The above grammar pattern is –‘tari suru’ or ‘–tari shimasu’ for the polite form. There is a question given and the answers are in the form of –‘tari shimasu’ since the timeframe for asking the question is about the activity next month. Every verb mentioned and represented all the activities will have ‘-tari’ form. The purpose for using this grammar pattern is to mention what is a person do or done in a specific time. It is mentioning the list of the activities that represent what the subject do or has done in that specific time without having to think about the order or the sequence. The above example is listing multiple activities or actions such as go for shopping and also swim at the pool.

パーティーで　何を　しますか。。。。ダンスをしたり、歌を　歌ったり　します。

Hiragana :

パーティーで　なにを　しますか。。。。ダンスをしたり、うたを　うたったり　します。

Romaji :

Paatii de nani wo shimasuka.

… Dansu wo shitari, uta wo utattari shimasu.

Meaning :

What are you doing at the party ?

… (I) dance, sing a song.

3. Answer :

Kanji :

冬休みは　何をしたいですか。

。。。　スキーに　行ったり、友達と　パーティーをしたり　したいです。

Hiragana :

ふゆやすみは　なにをしたいですか

。。。スキーに　いったり、ともだちと　パーティーをしたり　したいです。

Romaji :

Fuyu yasumi wa nani wo shitai desuka.

… Suki- ni ittari, tomodachi to pa-ti- wo shitari shitai desu.

Meaning :

What do you want to do in winter holiday ?.

… (I) want to go for skiing, partying with my friend.

4. Answer :

Kanji :

出張のまえに、何を　したければなりませんか。

。。。料理を作ったり、レポートを送りたり　しなければなりません。

Hiragana :

しゅっちょうのまえに、なにを　しなければなりませんか。

。。。りょうりをつくったり、レポートをおくたり　しなければなりません。

Romaji :

Shucchou no mae ni, nani wo shinakereba narimasenka.

… Ryouri wo tsukuttari, repo-to wo okuritari shinakerebanarimasen.

Meaning :

Before the business trip, what do you have to do ?.

… (I) have to make a dish, send a report.
