Pattern for -i type adjective :

Example :
Kanji : この 食べ物は 不味くないです。
Hiragana : この たべもの は まずくないです。
Romaji : Kono tabemono wa mazukunai desu。
Meaning : This food doesn’t taste bad。
The adjective is ‘mazui’ which is translated as bad, awful in term of taste.But it is changed into ‘not bad, not awful’ by modifying the adjective into ‘mazukunai’. For -i type adjective, converting it into a negative one need several steps to be done. Omitting the -i vowel in the end of the adjective and append it with ‘kunai’.
Pattern for -na type adjective :

Example :
Kanji : その 男は 弱虫では ありません。
Hiragana : その おとこは よわむしでは ありません。
Romaji : Sono otoko wa yowamushi dewa arimasen。
Meaning : That man is not a coward。
The adjective is ‘yowamushi’ which is translated coward, since it is appended with ‘dewa arimasen’, it is translated as not coward. That is the pattern used for changing a -na type adjective into a negative one which is achieved by appending ‘dewa arimasen’.
