Japanese Language Proficiency Test Part III Level 4 Year 1995.

Japanese Language Proficiency Test or Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken (日本語能力試験) is one of the means which is used on measuring the ability to speak Japanese Language. Below is the questions which is shown in the 1995’s Japanese Language Proficiency Test Part III Level 4.

1.あの ひとは りゅうがくせいです

Romaji : Ano hito wa ryuugakusei desu.

Meaning : That man is a overseas student.

1.あの ひとは りょこうを しに きました。

2.あの ひとは べんきょうを しに きました。

3.あの ひとは はたらきに きました。

4.あの ひとは あそびに きました。

The answer :

1. Romaji     : Ano hito wa ryokou wo shi ni kimashita.

Meaning   : That man has came to do a travel.

2. Romaji     : Ano hito wa benkyou wo shi ni kimashita.

Meaning   : That man has came to learn.

3. Romaji     : Ano hito wa hataraki ni kimashita.

Meaning   : That man came to work.

4. Romaji     : Ano hito wa asobi ni kimashita.

Meaning   : That man came to play.

Answer : 2

Since overseas student meant to came to other country to study, it is obvious that the correct answer is in the second option.

Meaning : Lesson is always start at 9.30. Today it started 10 minutes late.

The answer :

1. Romaji  : Kyou no jyugyou wa kujijyuppun ni hajimarimashita.

Meaning : Today’s lesson has started at 9.10.

2. Romaji    : Kyou no jyugyou wa kujinijyuppun ni hajimarimashita.

Meaning   : Today’s lesson has started at 9.20.

3. Romaji    : Kyou no jyugyou wa kujisanjyuppun ni hajimarimashita.

Meaning : Today’s lesson has started at 9.30.

4. Romaji  : Kyou no jyugyou wa kujiyonjyuppun ni hajimarimashita.

Meaning : Today’s lesson has started at 9.40.

Answer : 4

Clearly, since the lesson usually starts at 9.30 and today it is 10 minutes late. So the answer is in the fourth option that the lesson today started at 9.40.

3.この みずは きれいです

Romaji       : Kono mizu wa kirei desu.

Meaning      : This water is clean.

1.この みずは おいしくないです。

2.この みずは つめたくないです。

3.この みずは きたなくないです。

4.この みずは あまくないです。

The answer :

1. Romaji  : Kono mizu wa oishikunaidesu.

Meaning : This water is not tasty.

2. Romaji  : Kono mizu wa tsumetakunaidesu.

Meaning : This water is not cold.

3. Romaji  : Kono mizu wa kitanakunaidesu.

Meaning : This water is not dirty.

4. Romaji  : Kono mizu wa amakunaidesu.

Meaning : This water is not sweet.

Answer : 3

All of the answer is describing the water in adjectives. It is describing in a negative sentence. So, the answer which has the similar meaning in the questions is in the third answer. The sentence in the above question state that the water is clean, so the answer must be in the third option that state the water is not dirty.

4.きのうの テストは むずかしく なかったです

Romaji  : Kinou no tesuto wa muzukashiku nakattadesu.

Meaning : Yesterday’s test wasn’t difficult.

1.    きのうの テストは やさしく なかったです。

2.    きのうの テストは かんたんでした。

3.    きのうの テストは みじかく なかったです。

4.    きのうの テストは たいせつでした。

The answer :

  1. Romaji  : Kinou no tesuto wa yasashiku nakattadesu.

Meaning : Yesterday’s test wasn’t easy.

  1. Romaji  : Kinou no tesuto wa kantandeshita.

Meaning : Yesterday’s test was easy.

  1. Romaji  : Kinou no tesuto wa mijikaku nakattadesu.

Meaning : Yesterday’s test was not short.

  1. Romaji  : Kinou no tesuto wa taisetsu deshita.

Meaning : Yesterday’s test was important.

Answer : 2

The answer is in the second option. The second option state that the test is easy which has the similar meaning with the sentence in the question that state the test wasn’t difficult.

5.わたしは ふくださんに かんじを ならいました

Romaji  : Watashi wa fukuda-san ni kanji wo naraimashita.

Meaning : I learnt kanji from Fukuda-san.

1.    ふくださんは わたしに かんじを ならいました。

2.    わたしは ふくださんに かんじを おしえました。

3.    ふくださんは わたしに かんじを みせました。

The answer :

1. Romaji  : Fukuda-san wa watashi ni kanji wo naraimashita.

Meaning : Fukuda learnt kanji from me.

2. Romaji  : Watashi wa fukuda-san ni kanji wo oshiemashita.

Meaning : I taught kanji to fukuda-san

3. Romaji  : Fukuda-san wa watashi ni kanji wo misemashita.

Meaning : Fukuda showed me kanji.

4. Romaji    : Watashi wa fukuda-san ni kanji wo misemashita.

Meaning : I showed kanji to Fukuda.

Answer : 3

The first and second option has the same meaning which is the opposite meaning from the sentence in the question. The question state that the speaker learnt kanji from Fukuda but option first and second state that fukuda learnt kanji from the speaker and the speaker taught fukuda kanji. The answer lies in the third option where Fukuda showed the speaker kanji or in other meaning imply that Fukuda showed the speaker how to write kanji. The fourth option has the opposite meaning with the third one.
