I will go to Tokyo to work at 22nd September. I think I want to go to your apartment after that. About the accident, the condition of the wound (injury), I think I want to know it more after that. Romaji :
1.9gatsu tsuitachi 2.9gatsu tooka 3.9gatsu jyuuni nichi 4.9gatsu ni jyuu ni nichi
Meaning :
1.1st September 2.10th September 3.12th September 4.22nd September
Answer : 3
The correct answer is in the third option. It can be inferred from the above passage as follows :
Kanji : ヤンさん、9月10日のお手紙、今日着きました。
Hiragana : ヤンさん、9がつとおかのおてがみ、きょうつきました。
Romaji : Yan-san, kugatsu tooka no otegami, kyou tsukimashita.
Meaning : Yan, the 10th September letter, today has arrived.
The one which has to be underlined is the date of the letter which is becoming an information for the answer as follows :
Kanji : ヤンさん、9月10日のお手紙、今日着きました
Hiragana : ヤンさん、くがつとおかのおてがみ、きょうつきました。
Romaji : Yan-san, kugatsu tooka no otegami, kyou tsukimashita.
Meaning : Yan, the 10th September’s letter, today has arrived.
Since, the writer of the letter, Yamada Yoshiko wrote ‘kyou tsukimashita’, it means the letter has arrived today and we can get today’s date by acquiring the date of the letter Yamada was written which is 12th September. So, the correct answer is in the third option.
2.ヤンさんの手紙がおそくなったのはどうしてですか。
2.a Question
Hiragana : ヤンさんのてがみはおそくなったのはどうしてですか。
Romaji : Yan-san no tegami wa osoku natta no wa doushite desuka ?
Meaning : Why did Yan’s letter (come) late ?
2.b Answer
1.ヤンさんがじこでけがをしたらからです。
2.ヤンさんがべんきょうでいそがしいかったからです。
3.ヤンさんが病気だったからです。
4.ヤンさんがしごとで東京へ行っていたからです。
Hiragana :
1.ヤンさんがじこでけがをしたからです。
2.ヤンさんがべんきょうでいそがしかったからです。
3.ヤンさんがびょうきだったからです。
4.ヤンさんがしごとでとうきょうへいっていたからです。
Romaji :
1.Yan-san ga jiko de kega wo shita kara desu.
2.Yan-san ga benkyou de isogashikatta kara desu.
3.Yan-san ga byouki data kara desu.
4.Yan-san ga shigoto de toukyou e itta kara desu.
Meaning :
1.Because Yan was hurt from the accident.
2.Because Yan was study.
3.Because Yan was sick.
4.Because Yan went to the Tokyo to work.
Answer : 1
The answer can be found in the second paragraph of the letter which is written by Yamada as follows :
Kanji : お手紙を読んでほんとうにびっくりしました。じこのあと、。。。
Hiragana : おてがみをよんでほんとうにびっくりしました。じこのあと、。。。
Romaji : Otegami wo yonde hontou ni bikkuri shimashita. Jiko no ato, ….
Meaning : When I read the letter, I was very shocked. After the accident, …
The sentence above described what is actualy happened. Yamada was shocked when Yamada read the sentence particularly because of the accident which Yan actually had it as Yan wrote it on the letter.
The second and third option is false because that is what Yamada and Yamada’ daughter presumed about the whole reason why Yan’s letter was late as follows :
Kanji : それで、日本語のべんきょうがいそがしいのか、病気をしたのかとむすめと話をしていました。
Hiragana : それで、にほんごのべんきょうがいそがしいのか、びょうきをしたのかとむすめとはなしをしていました。
Romaji : Sorede, nihongo no benkyou ga isogashii no ka, byouki wo shita no ka to musume to hanashi wo shite imashita.
Meaning : And then, (I) discussed with my daughter whether you were busy studying Japanese language or you were not feeling well.
The statement above can be found in the last sentence of the first paragraph in Yamada’s letter which is being written.
The fourth option is also wrong since the one who will go to Tokyo is Yamada, it is not Yan and Yamada wrote it all the way in the letter. It can be found in the second paragraph as follows :
Kanji : 9月22日にはしごとで東京へ行きます。
Hiragana : くがつにじゅうににちはしごとでとうきょうへいきます。
Romaji : Kugatsu ni jyuu ni nichi wa shigoto de Toukyou e ikimasu.
Meaning : I will go to Tokyo for working at 22nd of September.
3.ヤンさんはこの手紙を読んで、何をしますか。
3.a Question
Hiragana : ヤンさんはこのてがみをよんで、なにをしますか。
Romaji : Yan-san wa kono tegami wo yonde, nani wo shimasuka.
Meaning : Yan read this letter and then what (he/she) do?
3.b Answer :
Hiragana :
1.やまださんにてがみをかきます。
2.やまださんのでんしゃをまちます。
3.やまださんのてがみをまちます。
4.やまださんにでんわをかけます。
Romaji :
1.Yamada-san ni tegami wo kakimasu。
2.Yamada-san no densha wo machimasu。
3.Yamada-san no tegami wo machimasu。
4.Yamada-san ni denwa wo kakemasu。
Meaning :
1.Write a letter to Yamada。
2.Wait for Yamada’s train。
3.Wait for Yamada’s letter。
4.Call Yamada by phone。
Answer : 4
Yan will call Yamada by phone as Yamada asked which is written by Yamada in the letter as follows :
Kanji :ですから、その日のつごうはどうか、電話で知らせてください。
Hiragana :ですから、そのひのつごうはどうか、でんわでしらせてください。
Romaji : desukara, sono hi no tsugou wa douka, denwa de shirasete kudasai.
Meaning : in that case, please let me know how (are your) circumstance at that day by phone.
Yamada will go to Tokyo at 22nd September for working. So in the letter which is written by Yamada, he ask Yan to call Yamada to inform Yan’s circumstance on that day whether Yan can meet Yamada.
