In this article, we will discuss on using the interrogative pronoun ‘doko’(どこ) to ask for a place or location which is being asked in the sentence.We will try to display it in the sample of conversation both in the presenttense and past tense. The written material in this article was made to answer several questions in Shin Nihongo no Kiso I chapter 5 practice B part 19on page 33. Based on the problems given, we have to answer the question accordingly to the location name given as part of the question itself. We willgive a sample pattern with an example as follows :

 

Present Form

Kanji       :

Question    : 今どこへ行きますか?

Answer      : 食堂でたべます。

 

Hiragana    :

Question    : いまどこへいきますか?

Answer      : しょくどうでたべます。

Romaji      :

Question    : Ima doko e ikimasuka?

Answer      : kusuriya e kusuri wo kau ni ikimasu。

 

Meaning     :

Question    : Where do you want to go now?

Answer      : I want to go to the pharmacy to buy medicine。

 

Past Form

Kanji       :

Question    : 夕べどこへ行きましたか

Answer      : 映画館へ映画を見に行きました。

 

Hiragana    :

Question    : ゆうべどこへいきましたか

Answer      : えいがかんへえいがをみにいきました。

 

Romaji      :

Question    : yuube doko e ikimashitaka

Answer      : eigakan e eiga wo mi ni ikimashita.

 

Meaning     :

Question    : where did you go last night?

Answer      : I went to the cinema to watch movie

Based on the above pattern and example, we will only display the answer of the problems. The question is displayed in Shin Nihongo no Kiso I chapter 4practice C part 4 on page 33. Below are the answers :

1. Answer

Kanji :

デパートへ行きます。

Hiragana :

デパートへいきます。

Romaji :

Depa-to e ikimasu.

Meaning :

(I) will go to the department store.

 

2.Answer

Kanji :

銀座へ行きました。

Hiragana :

ぎんざへいきました。

Romaji :

Ginza e ikimashita.

Meaning :

(I) went to Ginza.

 

3. Answer

Kanji :

友達のうちへ行きました。

Hiragana  :

ともだちのうちへいきました。

Romaji    :

Tomodachi no uchi e ikimashita.

Meaning   :

(I) went to my friend’s house.

 

4. Answer

Kanji     :

どこも行きません。

Hiragana  :

どこもいきません。

Romaji    :

Doko mo ikimasen.

Meaning   :

I don’t go anywhere.
