We are still presenting this article with the usage of adjective on modifying noun. We are creating simple conversation based on the pair of question and answer sample in Minna no Nihongo 1 book chapter 8 section B part 7 in page 68. The grammar pattern of sentence contains adjective modifying noun is given in the example in a negative sentence and also a positive one. Depends on the question we have to create either one of positive sentence or negative one. The adjective itself are also divided into two types of adjective. The first one is the –i type adjective and the latter is the -na type adjective. Below is the examples in form of question and answer pair :

The -i type adjective (tsumetai ・冷たい・つめたい)

This type of adjective is called the –i type adjective because all of the adjective ends with the letter –i or ( い ). When we want to use this kind of adjective to describe a noun, we just have to stick the adjective following with the noun that we want to use. We are going to make it a negative sentence based on the pattern by creating the following conversation as an example :

Pattern                 :

Kanji                      : 形容詞              +名詞                                                +じゃ ありません          +。。。

Hiragana              : けいようし          +めいし                                             +じゃ ありません          +。。。

Romaji                  : keiyoushi          +meishi                                            +jya arimasen                 +。。。

Meaning              : not a                   +-i type adjective                           +noun                               +。。。

Example               :

Kanji                      :

このお茶は冷たいおちゃですか。

Hiragana              :

このおちゃはつめたいおちゃですか。

。。。いいえ、つめたいおちゃじゃ ありません。

Romaji                  :

Kono ocha wa tsumetai ocha desuka.

。。。iie, tsumetai ocha jya arimasen.

Meaning              :

。。。no, it is not a cold tea.

The -na type adjective (sabishii・さびしい・ 寂しい)

The -na type adjective  is another type of adjective which are generally don’t ends with the letter -i  although there are some words which ends with the letter –i ( い ) but it is being classified as the –na type adjective such as kirei (きれい)which is translated as beautiful.  When we want to use this type of adjective, we have to add –na (―な)before we stick and follow it with a noun.

Pattern                 :

Kanji                      : 形容動詞                         +名詞                              +じゃ ありません+。。。

Hiragana              : けいようどうし                   +めいし                           +じゃ ありません+。。。

Romaji                  : keiyoudoushi                  +meishi                           +jya arimasen       +。。。

Meaning              : not a                                  +-na type adjective      +noun                     +。。。

Example               :

Kanji                      :
