Minna no Nihongo Answer Chapter 8 B5

This is article which is presented to discuss on using adjective to modify noun. It means, the adjective is used to describe further about the characteristic which is owned by the noun itself. There are two types of adjectives in Japanese grammar and there are also two pattern based on the adjective types accordingly. We can refer it in Minna no Nihongo 1 book chapter 8 section B part 5 in page 68. The explanation will be given in form of examples as follows :

The -i type adjective (karai・辛い・からい)

This type of adjective is called the –i type adjective because all of the adjective ends with the letter –i or ( い ). When we want to use this kind of adjective to describe a noun, we just have to stick the adjective following with the noun that we want to use.

Pattern                 :

Kanji                      : 形容詞+名詞+。。。

Hiragana              : けいようし+めいし+。。。

Romaji                  : keiyoushi +meishi+。。。

Meaning              : -i type adjective +noun+。。。

Example               :

Kanji                      : 辛い食べ物が大好きです。

Hiragana              : からいたべものがだいすきです。

Romaji                  : karai tabemono ga daisuki desu.

Meaning              : I really love spicy food.

The -na type adjective (eien ・永遠・えいえん)

The -na type adjective is another type of adjective which are generally don’t ends with the letter -i although there are some words which ends with the letter –i ( い ) but it is being classified as the –na type adjective such as kirei (きれい)which is translated as beautiful. When we want to use this type of adjective, we have to add –na (―な)before we stick and follow it with a noun.

Pattern                 :

Kanji                      : 形容動詞+名詞+。。。

Hiragana              : けいようどうし+めいし+。。。

Romaji                  : keiyoudoushi +meishi+。。。

Meaning              : -na type adjective +noun+。。。

Example               :

Kanji                      : この生活に永遠人生があるわけがないだろう

Hiragana              : このせいかつにえいえんじんせいがあるわけがないだろう

Romaji                  : Kono seikatsu ni eien na jinsei ga aru wake ga nai darou

Meaning              : Off course there isn’t any everlasting (person’s) life in this livelihood.

1.Answer

Kanji                   :

冷たい牛乳を 飲みました。

Hiragana            :

つめたいぎゅうにゅうを のみました。

Romaji               :

Tsumetai gyuunyuu wo nomimashita.

Meaning           :

I drank cold cow milk.

2.Answer

Kanji                   :

新しいビデオを借りました。

Hiragana            :

あたらしいビデオをかりました。

Romaji               :

Atarashii bideo wo karimashita.

Meaning           :

I borrowed a new video.

3.Answer

Hiragana            :

すてきな プレゼントを もらいました。

Romaji               :

Suteki na purezento wo moraimashita.

Meaning           :

I received an great present.

4.Answer

Kanji                   :

昨日の晩 有名なレストランで 食べました。

Hiragana            :

きのうのばん ゆうめいなレストランで たべました。

Romaji               :

Kinou no ban yuumei na resutoran de tabemashita.

Meaning           :

Yesterday’s night (I) ate at a famous restaurant.
