Another article presenting on creating either positive or negative sentence. Those sentences are containing adjectives either the –i type adjective or –na type adjective. Both adjectives have their own pattern not only in a positive sentence but also in the negative sentence. We need to understand to create those sentences with those type of adjectives. By understanding on how to make it, we will be able to answer which is shown in Minna no Nihongo 1 book chapter 8 section B part 3 in page 67. We will try to explain it further in form of examples as follows :

1.Positive Sentence

1.a  形容詞・けいようし「keiyoushi . –i type adjective」

Pattern                                 :

Kanji           : 。。。+           形容詞                                +です

Hiragana   : 。。。+           けいようし     +です

Romaji       : 。。。+           keiyoushi             +desu

Meaning    : 。。。+           -i type adjective

Example               :

Kanji                      : 今晩たくさん星が輝いているからそらが明るいです。

Hiragana              : こんばんたくさんほしがかがやいているからそらがあかるいです。

Romaji                  : Konban takusan hoshi ga kagayaite iru kara sora ga akarui desu.

Meaning               : Tonight lots of star shine so the sky is bright.

1.b 形容動詞・けいようどうし「keiyoudoushi . –na type adjective」

Pattern                                 :

。。。+           形容動詞                           +です

。。。+           けいようどうし           +です

。。。+           keiyoudoushi                     +desu

。。。+           -na type adjective

Example               :

Kanji                      : あの人は結局結婚して、それで幸せです。

Hiragana              : あのひとはけっきょくけっこんして、それでしあわせです。

Romaji                  : Ano person wa kekkyoku kekkon shite, sorede shiawase desu.

Meaning              : That person eventally get married, and because of that (that person) is happy.

2.Negative Sentence

2.a 形容詞・けいようし「keiyoushi . –i type adjective」

Pattern                                 :

Kanji         : 。。。+           形容詞                                                +  +くない    +です

Hiragana : 。。。+           けいようし                     +  +くない    +です

Romaji     :。。。+           keiyoushi                             +i    +kunai     +desu

Meaning  : 。。。+           not                                         +-i type adjective

Kanji                      : この問題の答えが正しくないです。

Hiragana              : このもんだいのこたえがただしくないです。

Romaji                  : kono mondai no kotae ga tadashikunai desu.

Meaning              : The answer to this problem is incorrect.

Based on the above pattern, if we want to alter keiyoushi (-i type adjective), we have to omit the last –i (い) letter at the very end of the adjective. After that, for a negative sentence in an informal form, we have to add –kunai desu (くないです). That conjugation form must be added as a suffix to the adjective in order to have a negative form.

2.b 形容動詞・けいようどうし「keiyoudoushi . –na type adjective」

Pattern                                 :

Kanji         : 。。。+           形容動詞                           +じゃ      +ありません

Hiragana : 。。。+           けいようどうし           +じゃ+ありません

Romaji     : 。。。+           keiyoudoushi                     +jya  +arimasen

Meaning  : 。。。+           not                                         +-na type adjective

Kanji                      : その歌手は人気じゃありません。

Hiragana              : そのかしゅはにんきじゃありません。

Romaji                  : sono kashu wa ninki jya arimasen.

Meaning              : that singer is not popular.

Based on the above pattern, if we want to alter keiyoudoushi (-na type adjective) in an informal way, we can add じゃありません(jya arimasen)after the adjective.
