The article below contains question concerning about giving answer and one of those are demonstrative pronoun koko (ここ)、soko(そこ), and asoko (あそこ). The question which is given Shin Nihongo no Kiso I chapter 3 practice B part 2 is asking where is the location of a person.

To be able to ask about a person’s whereabouts, we can use interrogative pronoun どこ. The question given is an interrogative pronoun asking where is a person’s whereabouts and the answer will be a specific name of location or place where the person is or a demonstrative pronoun pointing the location or the place. All of the complete questions is shown in Shin Nihongo no Kiso I chapter 3 practice B part 2 on page 23. Below is a reference on what kind of question which is being given and also the answer pattern :


Hiragana    : 。。。     +    どこ  +    ですか

Romaji      : …      +    doko  +    desuka

Meaning     : where is + … ?

Below is the example :


Question    : 財務大臣        + は + どこですか

Answer      : そこです。 あそこです。 会議室です。


Question    : ざいむだいじん  + は + どこですか

Ansswer     : そこです。 あそこです。 かいぎしつです。


Question    : zaimudaijin     + wa + doko desuka

Answer      : soko desu. asoko desu. kaigishitsu desu.

Meaning Question    : Where is the ministry of finance ?

Answer      : Over there. Over there. Meeting room.

Based on the above sample, we can create an interrogative question using interrogative pronoun どこ in order to ask a certain location as follows :

1. Answer :

Hiragana    :あそこです。

Romaji      :Asoko desu.

Meaning     :Over there.

2. Answer :

Hiragana    :ロビーです。

Romaji      : Robi-desu.

Meaning     : At the lobby.

3. Answer :

Kanji       :部屋です。

Hiragana    :へやです。

Romaji      :Heya desu.

Meaning     :At the room.

4. Answer :

Kanji       :横浜です。

Hiragana    :よこはまです。

Romaji      :Yokohama desu.

Meaning     :At Yokohama.
