In this part of article, we are going to present about how to make a negative answer based on the question which is given. To make a formal negative answer based on the given question, below are the pattern :
いいえ、+。。。+では ありません。
For an example we will be given the following questions below :
Kanji : 田中さんのお父さんは警察ですか
Hiragana : たなかさんのおとうさんはけいさつですか。
Romaji : Tanaka-san no otousan wa keisatsu desuka.
Meaning : Is Tanaka-san’s father a police officer ?
So, in order to make a negative answer based on the question above, we will give the following answer as shown below :
Kanji : いいえ、田中さんのお父さんは警察ではありません。
Hiragana : いいえ、たなかさんのおとうさんはけいさつではありません。
Romaji : Iie, Tanaka-san no otousan wa keisatsu dewa arimasen.
Meaning : No, Tanaka-san’s father is not a police officer.
In Shin Nihongo no Kiso I book, there are some exercises that can be used to practice on making a negative answer based on the question which is stated in the exercise. The exercise itself is a problem which is made in an interrogative form as shown in page 7.
1. Kanji : いいえ、キムさんは日本人ではありません。
Hiragana : いいえ、キムさんはにほんじんではありません。
Romaji : Iie, Kimu-san wa nihonjin dewa arimasen.
Meaning : No, Kim-san is not a Japanese.
2. Kanji : いいえ、あの人はタイ人ではありません。
Hiragana : いいえ、あの人はタイじんではありません。
Romaji : Iie, ano hito wa tai-jin dewa arimasen.
Meaning : No, that person is not a Thai.
3. Kanji : いいえ、リーさんは韓国の研修生ではありません。
Hiragana : いいえ、リーさんはかんこくのけんしゅうせいではありません。
Romaji : Iie, Ri-san wa kankoku no kenshuusei dewa arimasen.
Meaning : No, Ri-san is not a Korean trainee.
4. Kanji : いいえ、鈴木さんは先生ではありません。
Hiragana : いいえ、すずきさんはせんせいではありません。
Romaji : Iie, Suzuki-san wa sensei dewa arimasen.
Meaning : No, Suzuki-san is not a teacher.
