Japanese Minna no Nihongo Answer Sheet Chapter 12 Practice C Part 2 Page 101
The Japanese language grammar pattern in this article is used to discuss preference between two items. There are problems given which consist of several keywords. The japanese language grammar pattern above which is ‘ikaga’ . It is used to offer something which is in the above context it is food or dishes. Furthermore, the speaker is asking to select between items to be chosen. The offer for choosing something is described using japanese language grammar pattern, ‘dochira’.

Meaning :
A :how about some fruit ?。

A :which one do you like between apple and mandarin orange ?。
B : (I would like an) apple please。
The one picked in the above question is an apple. The offer is about having some fruit or not.

In the above question, there is an offering for a drink which is then the other counterpart select wine for a drink.

A :which one do you like between apple juice and vegetable juice ?。
B : (I would like an) apple juice please。
Another offer using ‘ikaga’ to have a juice. The selection falls to apple juice when the offering is narrowed down between apple juice or vegetable juice.
