This article was made containing conversation practices with two focuses. The first focus is asking about someone’s country origin or the someone’s nation origin or perhaps country where someone’s born as a birthplace. The vocabulary which is used is お国 where it is a polite form to point ‘kuni’or country. By adding prefix (o), the impact which is produced become more formal pointing on a country origin of someone. In order to ask from or the origin of someone we can use どちら (dochira) or どこ (doko). The difference is どこ has an informal meaning.

Question’s Pattern

Kanji    : 「お国 」+は + どちら ですか

Hiragana : 「おくに」+は + どちら ですか

Romaji   : O kuni」 + wadochira desuka.

Meaning  : (Your) country」+where ?

Where do you come from ?

And then in this article also we are going to use vocabulary いつ(itsu) to ask date or time of an activity which in this article is coming on to a certain place or location. Below is the pattern :

Question’s Pattern

Kanji   : いつ + 「場所」  + へ + 来ましたか

Hiragana: いつ + 「ばしょ」 + へ + きましたか

Romaji  : Itsu+ 「Basho」 + e  + kimashitaka

Meaning : When (you) come to [ location / place name ]

The problem which is stated in chapter 5 page 43 is being used to make a short conversation based on the information which is provided in the problem. The problem which is given has the information contains in order to make a short conversation, information about the location which is going to be visited and the time that a subject come to another location in this context is Japan. The answer which is given has a pattern of vocabulary usage どちら (dochira) to ask someone’s country origin and いつ(itsu) to ask when someone is going to come to a location. This pattern is going to be used in order to answer the problem.

Question’s example using どちら

Kanji    :お国は どちらですか

Hiragana :おくには どちらですか

Romaji   : Okuni wa dochiradesuka

Meaning  :       What country are you come from ?

Where do you come from ?

Question’s example using いつ

Kanji   : いつ 日本 へ 来ましたか。

Hiragana: いつ にほん へ きましたか。

Romaji  : Itsu nihon e ikimasuka.

Meaning : When (did you) come to Japan ?

From the above example we can make a conversation based on the information which is provided in the problem.

そうですか。 いつ 日本へ 来ましたか。

先月の 10日 に 来ました。

Hiragana

おくには どちらですか。

インドネシアです。

そうですか。 いつ にほんへ きましたか。

せんげつの とおかに きました。

Romaji

Okuni wa dochira desuka.

Indoneshia desu.

Soudesuka. Itsu nihon e kimashitaka.

Sengetsu no tooka.

Meaning

What country do you come from ?.

Indonesia.

I see. When did you come to Japan ?.

I came at 10th last month.

イギリスです。

そうですか。いつ 日本へ 来ましたか。

ことしの 3月 に きました。

Hiragana

おくには どちらですか。

イギリスです。

そうですか。いつ にほんへ きましたか

ことしの さんがつに きました。

Romaji

Okuni wa dochira desuka.

Igirisu desu.

Sou desuka. Itsu nihon e kimashitaka ?

Kotoshi no sangatsu.

Meaning

What country do you come from ?.

England.

I see. When did you come to Japan ?.

I came at March this year.

Kanji

お国は どちらですか。

中国です。

そうですか。いつ 日本へ 来ましたか。

先週の 月曜日に 来ました。 

Hiragana

おくには どちらですか。

ちゅうごくです。

そうですか。いつ にほんへ きましたか。

せんしゅうの げつようびに きました。

Romaji

Okuni wa dochira desuka.

Chuugoku desu.

Sou desuka.

Senshuu no getsuyoubi ni kimashita.

Meaning

What country do you come from ?.

Chinese.

I see. When did you come to Japan ?.

I came Monday last week.
