Japanese Language Lesson Minna no Nihongo 1 Chapter 10 Section B Part 2

This article is created to discuss about the location of a subject relative to another subject. Using the right prepositions, answer the questions presented in Minna no Nihongo 1 book chapter 10 Section B Part 2 in page 83. Since the question is attached with different images showing the exact place of an item relative to other item, the answer for the question can be made.

1.Answer

Kanji       : 椅子の下に猫がいます。

Hiragana    : いすのしたにねこが います。

Romaji            : Isu no shita ni neko ga imasu.

Meaning     : There is a cat under the chair.

The preposition used in this question is ‘shita’ which can be translated as ‘under’. Based on the image, the cat is under the chair. So, to describe the existence of cat using the clause ‘ga imasu’, it is described further by using preposition ‘shita’ where the cat exist under the table.

2.Answer

Kanji       : 本屋の前に 車が あります。

Hiragana    : ほんやのまえに くるまが あります。

Romaji            : Honya no mae ni kuruma ga arimasu.

Meaning     : There is car in front of the book store.

The preposition used in this question is ‘mae’. It is because ‘kuruma’ or the car  exist which is described with the clause ‘ga arimasu’, is located in front of ‘honya’ or the book store.

3. Answer

Kanji       : 来の上に 子供が います。

Hiragana    : きのうえに こどもが います。

Romaji            : Ki no ue ni kodomo ga imasu 。

Meaning     : There is a child on the tree。

The preposition used in this question is ‘ue’ which is translated as ‘on top of, above’. The existence of a child which is described with the clause ‘ga imasu’ is located above the tree. So, the preposition used is ‘ue’.

4.Answer

Kanji       : 冷蔵庫の中に たくさん食べ物が あります。

Hiragana    :  れいぞうこのなかに たくさんたべものが あります。

Romaji            : Reizouko no naka ni takusan tabemono ga arimasu.

Meaning     : There are lots of food inside the refrigerator.

The correct answer in the last question is using preposition ‘naka’ which can be translated as ‘in, inside’. It is because the foods exist described by the clause ‘ga arimasu’ is contained in a refrigerator.
